2017 Mock Election

The Harrington Middle School student body had the opportunity to make their voices heard by casting a vote for governor in a mock election on Friday, November 3rd. The social studies department teamed up with student council to provide the students with an authentic voting experience.
The purpose of the activity was to educate students on the various steps of the voting process.  For example, students filled out voter registration papers and researched the candidates in their social studies classes. This prepared them to go the school’s auditorium where students would then need to approach their correct table to sign-in next to their registered name. Students would then receive a ticket to hand over to a poll worker.
Students then voted electronically by computer in private cubicles. Following their votes, students received an “I Voted” sticker to conclude the process. Results from the mock elections were announced on Monday, November 6th.
The results were Phil Murphy 55.1%, Kim Guadagno 28.6%, and 16.3% for third party candidates.
